·         User Interface:

oGUI is GTK-+2.2 based, supports unicode and antialiased fonts.

oShows speed, position and altitude.

o        Zooming.

·  Maps:

oAutoload of map files.

o        Network Maps:

§  Download of maps from internet built in (Expedia). Can also load topo-maps (avail. for USA only)

§         GpsDrive can use NASA satellite images (see Nasamaps section).

§         gpsfetchmap.pl: Script to load maps from internet.

§  Supports internet connection through proxy server.

·         Friends server:

o        If people connect to the friendsd server, they can see each others' position on the map.

oMessages: You can send messages to other peoples using the same friends server.

·         Tracks:

oShows your track.

oStore and load tracks.

·  Waypoints:

o        Select destination from waypoint list.

o        Shows waypoints on the map.

o        Selectable waypoint file.

oWaypoints can be stored in SQL database (currently MySQL is supported). This enables use of a huge amount of waypoints without slowing down GpsDrive.

o        Shows icons for predefined waypoint types.

o        Add a waypoint with a mouseclick.

oAdd a waypoint at current position with a mouseclick or key shortcut (x).

o        Add a waypoint at mouse position with a key shortcut (y).

o        You can define a waypoint type while creating a waypoint.

·  Routes:

oShows distance, direction and time to go for destination.

o        Routes can be created using existing waypoints.

·         GPS Interface:

oThe gpsd daemon reads the data from your NMEA capable GPS receiver.

oOn some GARMIN receivers a faster 'GARMIN transfer mode' can be used.

o        wpget: Script to read waypoints from GARMIN GPS.

o        Shows satellites signal level (only in NMEA mode).

oShows EPE (estimated position error) if supported by your GPS receiver.

o        Supports differential GPS over IP (DGPS-IP) if you use the included gpsd.

o        Simulator mode: you can test without GPS receiver. Select a waypoint and the marker moves toward it.

o        Program "gpsreplay" replays your stored tracks

o"gpssmswatch" sends your position to the phone number which sends a SMS with the content "PLSSENDPOS", needs a working "gnokii" installation

·         Sound Abilities:

oSupports 'festival' in server mode and also 'flite' (small and fast version of festival) for speech output.

o        Speech output in english, spanish and german.

o        Speech output of status information (direction, speed, radar warning, GPS signal, distance to destination, Battery level, access point).

·         Build in Radar warning, warnings also as speech output.

·  Runs also on Compaq iPAQ.

·  Directly supports wardriving with Kismet(a WLAN detection tool), only in SQL mode. Shows Wireless LAN (WLAN) access point in realtime on the map, with voice information about a new access point.
